"Nipping poverty in the bud by giving a future
and a hope to vulnerable and disadvantaged children
(orphans) through the provision of basic necessities
such as; Education (and its requisites, health care,
food and (second hand) clothes".
I-CCO
Zambia is governed by a Board of Directors who are all
very keen on Community projects that help the needy.
All its programs have one goal: "Education and
Training for Sustained Livelihood for orphans and their
very poor guardians". This vision will empower
the poorest of the poor by giving them the basics that
they need for life including physical, spiritual and
emotional needs. However, I-CCO does not believe in
hand-outs, for these will not last for ever and will
create a dependency on others. I-CCO believes
that the community plays a vital role in helping to
alleviate this disastrous situation.. But the community
and guardians of the orphans have limited resources
and the sheer number of orphans threatens to overwhelm
their efforts.
I-CCO UK supports the work of the community and
the I-CCO team in Zambia financially and through prayer
as they struggle to support and absorb the growing number
of orphans that are continually being added to the community.
The support provides some basic food healthcare, second
hand clothing and pays for school fees. Additionally
they are given entrepreneurship training; thus the children
are taught within a community lifestyle, but also learn
how to be self-sufficient and provide for their own
needs. I-CCO believes that this will give this class
of people a future and a hope in a world that has deprived
them of the care and training that only parents can
give. Poverty will then be 'nipped in the bud'.
How
bad is the HIV/AIDS crisis in Zambia? How many orphans
are there?
Current
statistics show that one in every five (20%) of Zambians
are affected with the virus that causes AIDS. This has
hit the countries development efforts as the highly
qualified workforce has suffered and additionally many
parents have left helpless children. The situation is
appalling and needs immediate attention. I-CCO is determined
to educate and train more manpower in order to fill
up the gaping void created by the loss of manpower and
parents, thus help the economy not to stagnate.
